Women require proper nutrition at all ages but it becomes all the more important during pregnancy and post pregnancy. The good news is that pregnant women can eat just about any type of food they like as many times as they want. They just need to follow certain simple guidelines to ensure the health of the baby and their own health.

The pregnant woman’s diet should include at least five servings of vegetables and fresh fruits. Some of the fruits she can have are oranges, leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, and more. Fortified cereals and whole grains play an important role in building the health of a pregnant lady. Therefore, a pregnant woman should eat at list six servings of these food items. Also, her diet should include dairy products as well. Low-fat milk products are the best for her. Pregnant women should try to stay away from extra fatty foods with high amounts of cholesterol. Lean meat, chicken, fish and beans are the good items to be served.

Staying hydrated is very important during pregnancy. This is the reason why you should drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Make sure that you do not drink lots of water at one go as it may bloat your stomach and cause nausea. Instead, go for small amounts at regular intervals of time.

Gaining weight during pregnancy is extremely important. If the woman is not gaining weight the child will also not gain weight. If the weight gain is not happening with your current diet plan, you may need to change it.
